Devised by Bikram Choudhury, Bikram yoga first became popular in the early 1970s. It follows a set sequence of yoga moves with a unique twist: it is practiced in a heated room designed to make you sweat. This gives you the feeling that you've worked harder than you actually have, leaving you feeling more rejuvenated than other forms of yoga. In Bikram yoga, the studio in which you practice yoga is typically heated to around 105 degrees Farenheit, with humidity levels at around 40%. A sequence of 26 different yoga postures are practiced, along with two breathing exercises, in sessions lasting 90 minutes. The added dimension of the heat is designed to enable you to do deeper stretches, with less risk of suffering an injury than in more traditional forms of yoga.
